Downside Primary School

Maths at Downside

Our Intent

At Downside Primary School, our mathematics curriculum is an ambitious curriculum that empowers our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become confident, resourceful problem solvers and mathematicians. We aim to develop and create a positive culture where children have a deep appreciation for mathematics and its relevance in everyday life. Our curriculum will enable our students to make connections between mathematical concepts and the world around them.

We recognise that every child is unique, and we aim to provide a mathematics curriculum that enables our students to become confident mathematicians. All children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities, have opportunities to become fluent mathematicians who can solve sophisticated problems and develop relationships and generalisations to allow them to reason.

Foundation of number is developed in EYFS, which is then built on into KS1. To ensure comprehensive coverage of the National Curriculum, we follow the White Rose scheme of learning. We have adapted the sequence to allow for the systematic revisiting of units throughout the academic year. This approach ensures that the progression is transparent and evident in year group overviews.
