Downside Primary School

 Eco-gardening club

We intially had a eco-club and a gardening club and over time it became clear that the two are linked together so closely that we created Eco-gardening.

The children meet weekly and look at  ways of making the school more eco-friendly and also developing the grounds to gown fruit and vegetables and to increase the wildlife in the area.

In 2023-2024 the children took on the task of turning the unused and overgrown area at the front of the school into a vibrant vegetable plot and wildflower area. The children worked incredibly hard, getting very muddy along the way and were rewarded by being named "Luton Schools Best Garden 2024" winners as part of the Luton in Bloom competition.

Well done to all the children for their hard work and we are excited to see what happens next year!

Look at some of the fun we got upto last year!

Eco-gardening tidy up time.

It was great to get back out into the garden area with some old and new eco-gardeners. It was great to see the children getting stuck in, pulling out the old plants, repairing the slat, find and saving lots of bugs. Great first week.
